BASCOM started as a hobby tool. But since it is used by many professionals we decided many years ago to rewrite the software from scratch and to make it a tool suitable for professionals
This new IDE can be used with the bascom-avr compiler DLL. There will also be a basavr compiler that matched the new IDE. This will be an internal compiler.
BASCOM-AVR uses a different parser for the IDE and compiler. This new IDE named BASAVR and the matching compiler that will be added later, will have the same parser.
There are many new features available in the IDE. Some old features are removed. Some old features will be added at a later stage. LPT based programmers are not supported any longer.
The BASAVR IDE uses a separate simulator. This simulator will be available later. It is also rewritten.
You can chose 3 different simulators from the options. The best simulator is ISIS.
The IDE checks your your code while you type. This has advantages since it can check your code for errors while you type and it can offer code help. (CTRL+space)
Because the new parser has many new and different features, there is a catch : for example the new parser supports multi dimensional arrays. A feature not available in bascom-avr. So the parser will not give an error if you use this new syntax, but the bascom-avr compiler DLL will give errors if the syntax is not compatible with bascom-avr.
This new IDE does not use a license DLL any longer. You need to migrate the license DLL to a new text based license file.
Does BASAVR replaces BASCOM-AVR ? NO. These are two separate products
